Designing and Creating Film Posters

As well as creating a trailer, I am also in an individual task, designing and creating a poster and a web page for my film. Below are some of my designs for my poster and webpage, and different ideas of heading fonts, I have not yet chosen a specific one to do and am still experimenting as I will make the trailer first. Feedback on a prefered design would be welcome.

Designing and Creating our Trailer

Before me and Becky make the trailer, we decided that some well thought-out planning was needed. So we have drawn out a step-by-step plan of what we what to happen in it.
It needs to be carefully thought out so the making of the trailer will run smoothly.
Firstly, we have made decisions about; costumes, settings and characters.
Then time slots for each individual setting will be allocated, as some parts may take longer than others, so it all needs to be taken into consideration. The settings we have decided on are;
- The hallway of a house
- A dining room table
- A room set up as a restaurant
- On a street/park

- The front of a house
Three/four characters are needed for the trailer, and someone to do the voice over also. Camera angles and shot sizes have all been decided, and are written on our storyboard design of the trailer. The costumes will be provided by us with help from the actual characters and the filming will be spread out over two weeks, with enough time to make sure everyone can attend and the appropriate setting is available.
Dialogue, sound effects and music has also been established, reading for the editing of the trailer. Below is mine and Becky's trailer initial planning and designs :

Website Research

After looking at a number of different Romantic-Comedy film websites, I now have a basic idea of the typical conventions. On the Homepage of the website above, the two main characters are the main focus with their names underneath so the audience are reminded who they are. The title of the film is also a main attraction to remind us of it throughout. The whole background is set out like a beach, which is the location of the film and where it is set. It is all very bright and eye-catching, the audience do not want to be bored.
The navigation page is in the centre so it is made simple for the audience, if it is complicated they will get bored. The options are also written in the style of the beach, such as 'island tour' and 'snack shack' it is all in keeping with the film which is important so the audience can feel like they are a part of it all also.

The audience are also given many options of things to do on the website, such as interacting with the main character 'Lucy' in a game, or viewing all the characters (The Locals) or watching behind the scenes. It is important to be given lots of options so that you are told new things other than what they have already learnt from the film or trailer, the more information in different ways; e.g. through games, the better. Also on every page the background stays similar so it doesn't take away attention and the heading is always the title of the film, so we are constantly reminded.

This website however for the Romantic-Comedy '17 Again,' is very different from the previous example. The background is plan as not to draw attention away from the main focus, which is the character that the film is based on. So the audience are aware of this he is the only character shown on the Home page. The website is very modern looking, with limited colours and slanted words, to show the audience how new out the film is. The navigation menu is at the side, it is not too obvious, which doesn't take the attention away from the section in the middle. There are many options of what to do on the website, so the audience can feel involved. There is pictures, games, videos, cast and downloads available so that the audience are never bored or stuck of what to do.

The website also gives you the chance to watch the trailer, as does the '50 first dates' website. The background also stays the same throughout so it doesn't take away the focus from the centre. The main character is also still on the page, the film is mainly aimed at teenage girls, and Zac Efron is very popular amongst most, so pictures of him everywhere will keep the audience entertained, they do not want to be bored on the website.

From looking at these two very different websites, I have accumulated enough information of what is needed on a website to keep the audience interested, and also the main aspects needed, such as characters and games. Also the colours are to be in keeping with the film and stay the same throughout all the different pages.
